Women may choose to remove breast implants for a variety of personal reasons. Whether replacing implants with a more advanced option, resizing the breasts, or simply going back to exclusively natural breast tissue, it’s important to have an experienced plastic surgeon perform the procedure. Chad Robbins, M.D., F.A.C.S., is a Mayo Clinic-trained, board certified Nashville plastic surgeon and is renowned for his skills as a breast enhancement surgeon. Dr. Robbins serves the Nashville and Franklin areas and is extremely experienced in the safe removal of breast implants.
Why Do Some Women Choose Breast Implant Removal?
Women choose breast implant removal for unique reasons related to their own circumstances. Often, women choose to have their implants removed because the implants are from many years ago. If this is the case, a woman may be unhappy with how the implants fit her current body and may want to explore some of the modern breast implant options not available to her during the initial surgery. In addition to desiring breast implant removal as the first step in a new breast enhancement procedure, women may choose to remove breast implants for the following reasons:
- Desire for all-natural breasts
- Desire for larger breasts
- Desire for smaller breasts
- Desire for a different shape or structure to the breast
All of these reasons are legitimate concerns when considering breast implant removal. The breast implant removal surgery is low-risk, and many women would benefit from its rewarding outcomes. If you’re considering breast implant removal, we would be happy to discuss the wonderful possibilities- breast implant removal is often the necessary first step in regaining your body confidence.
How Are the Breast Implants Removed?
Before any surgical procedure, Dr. Robbins will meet with each and every patient to discuss the surgery itself. After learning about a woman’s goal for the breast implant removal, Dr. Robbins will determine the best course of action for that individual.
For the actual breast implant removal, Dr. Robbins typically uses general anesthesia, and the procedure lasts no longer than two hours. Incisions are made in the same locations as for the breast implant procedure, so scarring will be minimal. Dr. Robbins removes the implant, any residual scar tissue, and anything else (if there was a leak, etc.) necessary to ensure a successful procedure.
What Happens After Breast Implant Removal?
Patients return home from the surgery on the same day, and Dr. Robbins will prescribe medication as needed to manage any discomfort. Most women resume normal activity within four days following the procedure and enjoy the results as soon as the procedure is complete.
If a patient wanted breast implant removal as the first procedure in a new breast enhancement process, more procedures might be necessary. Depending on the patient’s goals for breast enhancement, Dr. Robbins may perform multiple procedures at the time of the breast implant removal. For other patients, Dr. Robbins may schedule the next procedure a short time after the breast implant surgery. Dr. Robbins will consult with each patient to make sure their total breast enhancement is a safe, comfortable, rewarding process.
How Much Does Breast Implant Removal Cost?
With some exceptions, breast implant removal is considered an elective procedure. For this reason, it is unlikely insurance companies will provide any coverage for this procedure. Dr. Robbins is proud to offer his patients unique financing options on all of his in-office procedures to make their dreams a reality.
